Writer Find/Replace

Something that has worked for years has now changed.
In a document I search for ’ T ’ without the quotes. I replace it with ’ T ’ and formatting: A font, Bold, Red. It does not apply the formatting and adds a page break to each line containing ’ T '. I’ve tried changing the Replace text to something else like ’ TT '. It will add the extra ‘T’ but still the formatting will not change.

This is baffling me.
I’ve attached an excerpt from the full file with before and after the attached find/replace screenshot is executed.
I have discovered it is not in every document, but it does happen to me often.
This is a new issues. I perform this Find/Replace weekly and have for years.

Sample Before.odt (39.4 KB)
Sample After.odt (12.7 KB)

I can reproduce (LO 25.8.5.2 on Windows).
But if, instead of Replace All, I use Replace, the insert page break before is not inserted.
More: if do you select all and clear direct formatting, you can replace all without problem.

I can reproduce in Win10 and LO 26.2.3.2

  • The extract (and I imagine the original file) is full of direct formatting,
  • I can’t figure out why Find and Replace doesn’t work as it should (I think it has something to do with that direct format.)

You have another option to make the replacement you want without having to change the letters T one by one

  1. Do the search for the letter T
  2. Click Search All - you will see the selection of all the letters T
  3. Without clicking anywhere in the document (so as not to lose the selection)
    • change the font, color and make it bold
  • or better… Use a character style such as Chant Mark

Thanks for the “Find All” tip.
That’s a functional work-around.
Much appreciated.

Do you want to file a bug or you are happy with this “work-around”?
