When I go to Format, then Paragraph to alter to double-spaced, the entire program freezes and will not respond.
I am using Windows 10 and Libre Office 7.3 I have never had this issue with Libre Office before. Perhaps it is a new bug?
I tried resetting my computer, and I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Libre Office, to no avail.
This is most disappointing. I have tried resetting my user profile. I have tried using it in safe mode. Nothing works. I have the latest version of Libre Office, and it still freezes every time I go into Format, then Paragraph. I have used Libre Office for years, but I am going to have to switch to Google Docs because of this persistent problem. Not a minor issue. Double spacing is a commonly needed feature.
Please attach a short sample file with the issue. It’ll be easier to analyse.
I have seen such freezes on long documents with heavy direct formatting (i.e. manual formatting without applying styles). Is this your case?
I’m not sure how I can attach a sample file. There is no direct formatting I have applied. Using a brand new text document, with nothing on it, if I click on format, then paragraph the whole program freezes.
When you make a comment or you edit your question (preferred procedure), the icon in the toolbar looking like a mail basket with an up-arrow is the tool to upload/attach a file.
The reason why I request a sample file is everything works nominal on my computer.
Okay, yes, but I’m not sure how uploading/ attaching a file would be of any use? What sort of file would I be uploading? A screenshot of me clicking on format, then paragraph? How is that useful?
A screenshot is generally worth nothing because we can’t experiment on it. Make a sample file on your computer, the smaller the better. The important thing is this sample file should exhibit the same faulty behaviour as your real file.
If I follow your procedure on a fresh file here, everything works fine. This is why a document which freezes on your computer is valuable. If it works like a charm on my computer, then the cause is not related to the document but to some installation “glitch” or bad interface with your OS. Under Window$, the most common factor is a damaged user profile after an update (often because W$ doesn’t halt the computer but hibernates it; a cold reboot is usually necessary; if this is not enough, the user profile must be reset). But first, let’s make sure the issue is related or not to the document.
Ok, I understand. There is definitely some other glitch, considering that this problem crops up with brand new, untouched documents. However, I’m looking for further guidance outside of resetting my computer, or reinstalling Libre, or resetting the user profile, all of which I have done and have not yet solved the problem.
Thank you, but I’m not encountering any error messages from Libre Office or from Microsoft. The program simply freezes, and has to be shut down through task manager. This is the only effect, and happens every time I click on Format- Paragraph.
There have not been any issues in installing Libre Office on the computer, only issues that stem from using it in the above described way.
