My wife recently moved from a 7 year old MBA to a new M1 iMac. Unfortunately, Writer seems to be unstable in this environment. As she demonstrated to me this morning, when she tries to paste text (from any source) into Writer, it freezes with the dreaded SPOD and has to be force quit.
