Writer text format giving extra space below and above text

Inserting paragraph indent the text format gives extra space below and above the text and not just the indent.
I have to insert a tab for the first line and the subsequent lines to overcome the problem.
Using Windows 10. This problem only started with the last two updates of LibreOffice.
LibreOffice 7.3.2.2 (x64)
Attached are the three stages. First is after text input. Second is with Tab inserted. Third is using FORMAT - PARAGRAPH - Then BORDER BEFORE TEXT to 1cm. Then clicking on OK.

Thank you

Paragraph indent never adds extra space on its own.
To answer your question, we need more information. So, edit the question to explain how you usually format your documents. Do you do it through styles or manual formatting with buttons and keyboard shortcuts?

Default Paragraph Style has no extra space above and below, but Text Body or First Line Indent (and many others) have a default 0.25cm space below.

Don’t forget to mention your OS name and LO version. Ideally, attach a sample file with the issue; this will show us how you format.

The best way is to assign appropriate paragraph styles to the paragraphs.
Select the paragraph (or the whole text) then press ( Ctrl+A ).
First delete the direct formatting with ( Ctrl+M ).
Use the “Body Text” paragraph style for text paragraphs.
Place the cursor in the paragraph and double-click the “Body Text” paragraph style.
When you change the properties of “Body Text”, the corresponding paragraph(s) will change.

Where can I find the styles?
