Xlsb file - BASIC syntax error

Hi all,

I have a fairly complex xlsb file with macros that I’m trying to open with Libre office calc 7.2.3.2

It’s a “room designer” for Dolby Speaker systems from their website: https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s/article/The-Home-Entertainment-Dolby-Audio-Room-Design-Tool-DARDT-HE-v5-3-7-is-now-available

I have macros enabled. When I open the file, the first “screen” is a “disclaimer” sheet where you have to tick an agree box. When I do this, I get an error that says: “BASIC syntax error, sub not allowed within a procedure”, and I am brought to the code view of the document.

I don’t suppose anyone knows what’s going on here and whether I can get around it?

I have a feeling the xlsb will only work properly with MS excel… which is a bit unfair on the part of Dolby for anyone who doesn’t have it!

Macros are the ring to bind them all. Any software compatible with some other software on API level would be a perfect clone of that other software. LibreOffice is not a clone of any other software.

…in other words: I need MS excel?

Yes. Excel is the one and only program which is API compatible with itself.

(Everybody should leave it to me how similar my posts may be. Even the askbot was probably better than this clown of a software.)

Why should they be fair? They are Dolby and Microsoft. Isn’t this kind of cartels not consisting of any agreements about prices or regions without competition a standard for a long time now? No negotiations needed. “We are the big ones.We know our mutual and joint interests anyway. Why write letters?”

This is certainly how it is. I thought it was a funny choice on the part of Dolby to write the program in xlsb when they could have made a standalone app. But nobody’s going to go and buy office 365 just to use this one little tool so it’s all a bit pointless. It’s more a case of if you’re a “professional” you must have MS office already, I never knew MS products were such a status symbol!

Not a solution. Converted to a comment.
