Maybe no web browser could be found on your system. In that case, please check your Desktop Preferences or install a web browser (for example, Firefox) in the default location requested during the browser installation.

Using

  • LibreOffice 5.2.7.2
  • Firefox 52.6.0
  • Link formatted similar to https://ask.libreoffice.org
  • Debian 8 Jessie 64 bit
  • GNOME 3.14.1
  • RAM: 32GB

Steps to resolve this challenge:

  1. Close LibreOffice Calc
  2. Re-open LibreOffice Calc
  3. Try to open an hyperlink. It will open as usual. Enjoy

We found the source of the issue, too many applications were open at once. Thus not enough memory available for LibreOffice to open an hyperlink. According to System Monitor, LibreOffice was using 9GB. Restarting LibreOffice cleaned and freed some memory. LibreOffice is now down to ~1GB.

We found this resolution seconds after asking here. So I’m sharing our finding here.
