Is there a work-around for the formula/value display problem?

At first I thought I had made an error and asked this question. But now it seems to be a bug. I first saw this in Calc 3.6.5.2. I tried to downgrade to the prior version but was stymied by a library dependency. So I upgraded to 4.0.0.3 and the same thing occurs.

To wit: After editing a spreadsheet formula, the cell will no longer display the value (text) but only will display the edited formula. Unedited formula cells still show values. Changing the formula display in Calc options has no affect.

I don’t know how long it will take to get these bugs fixed, and I’m pretty much stuck on a project until I can get a workaround at least.

Bugs filed are: Display formula in cell instead of value of result after editing formula, unedited cells not affected and VIEWING: Values not shown in cells, only formulae.

Does this problem occur only when the cell in question is formatted as a text cell??

If so this workaround has worked for me in the past:

1. Before editing the formula, change
   the cell format from text to
   Number - General.
2. Edit the formula in the cell, after editing it
   should display the value not the
   formula.
3. You can now reformat the cell as text, and it should continue to display the value.

I have never find this issue, using calc daily.

Have you tried to reset the user profile?, sometimes solve strange issues.

Couple of notes here:

2. When mentioning bugs filed on fdo, it can help us when we skim the question if you include the bug # and the current status, like this:

• fdo#60755 - UNCONFIRMED
• fdo#61316 - RESOLVED DUPLICATE of fdo#60755

2a. Including the bug title like this is helpful as well, but don’t feel obligated to do so

• fdo#60755 - Display formula in cell instead of value of result after editing formula, undedited cells not affected

3. There are some useful repro steps and an attachment on fdo#61316. Could you please add those to fdo#60755? That could help us to repro the bug.

In fact, when you move those over, please post a reply with @qubit1 in it – that’ll give me a ping, and I’ll try to hop over and repro fdo#60755 for you.
