Base cannot find Java JDK/JRE in my Mac

I have had LibreOffice for some time. Finally decided to try to use Base. It immediately told me it cannot find the requred Java. I know I already have the latest Java Environment, but I downloaded it again: jre-8u65-macosx-x64.pkg
I went back to Oracle’s website and searched for a JDK. I think I downloaded it. Still Base says I don’t have the required Java.
Do I have it in the wrong directory? Or did I download the wrong Java file?

What’s a wiki? How should I have done it?

Hello @BillSullivan,

Please see my answer in this post → Mac LO 5.3.7 (64) JRE. Also be sure to check out the links in the answer & subsequent links in the links.

Typically a wrong version is the cause of the problem. Occasionally the settings. All this is in the answers pointed to.

Having read all the answers and then tried again to install JDK, I decided I do not have the technical knowledge or the time to deal with this. I will not use Base.
