Calc spreadsheet copy/paste

I have a set of standard spreadsheet blanks to use for various numbers of members in sports club competitions.

If I just highlight, copy/paste the cells and paste them into a new spreadsheet the formatting does not accompany the paste.

How can I copy/paste spreadsheet blanks into a new workbook and retain the original formatting?

Try to copy not range, try to copy whole sheet

What I understand you are trying to do is what templates are designed for.

Save the ‘standard blanks’ as templates, then open new empty documents based on the templates. More information in the Getting Started Guide

Thank you very much, both methods work well. However I saw johnSun’s first, so began using that, I suspect its a slightly longer way round than the templates method, but I don’t have that many to move so I’ll stick with the early way.

Now for the admission, the sheets were originally setup in MS Excel before I decided to switch to Libra Office. In Excel what I wish to do was much easier, only having to click in the topmost left cell above the rows numbers “copy” and “paste” into the new sheet in a new workbook. Highlighting all used cells and copy/paste got the same result as with OO, pasted without formatting. This only worked with all formatting in place using the top left cell (which is usually blank).

But I’m very pleased it can be done in OO, in two ways, so thank you again.

You can of course do the same in LO - click the top left of the sheet left of Col A and above Row 1 to select the entire sheet, then copy and paste to a new spreadsheet or tab with formatting. Just tried both in LO 6.0.7.3 successfully. Lots of ways to skin this particular feline.

As a matter of fact I found it didn’t work. The first part did to the “copy” but after that I only got “paste only” with three greyed out options, “paste” on its own was not offered.

I am trying to copy to a new workbook, not into the same one I am copying from, is that a difference?

As I say above, I did both, copy to new tab in same sheet and new tab in new spreadsheet with success; I used Ctr-C and Ctrl-V. I just tried again using the relevant icons and the Edit menu tools, both worked. Note if you accidentally select all on the target sheet, all Paste options will be greyed out. Make sure your cursor is in A1.
