I am trying to figure out how to reproduce this effect in writer:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/crgmrgn/4629363824/sizes/o/

(apparently my karma is insufficient to publish links, so delete the space between htt and p in order to view the image I am talking about - maybe somebody with higher karma can edit this for me if they see it.)

i.e. I have a chunk of source text, and I want to label particular bits of it with numbered circles and then have the annotations below the source text. Can anybody suggest the best way to do this? Ideally, I'd like to avoid having to do it by positioning images manually for each annotation.

I did something similar last year... What I did:

menu Insert -> Special Character

you select font Windings

and you can find those numbered callouts... :)

The Windings font only has callouts from 1 to 10. MS PMincho (Japanese Input) font has them from 1to 20.
