I am trying to figure out how to reproduce this effect in writer:

i.e. I have a chunk of source text, and I want to label particular bits of it with numbered circles and then have the annotations below the source text. Can anybody suggest the best way to do this? Ideally, I’d like to avoid having to do it by positioning images manually for each annotation.
