OpenOffice and LibreOffice are tool sets. You save your files outside of the application. The suites don't contain your documents like e.g. Google's G-suite or Microsoft Office365 does (those suites will contain everything you make by default, the tool and the file cabinet are one, so to speak).

The tools just enable you to work with your documents, which you have saved on some storage medium (most likely within your Documents folder). No export/import required.

LibreOffice can coexist with OpenOffice, and you can alternate between them if you like, working on the same documents. They use esentially the same storage method and "come from the same origin", sort of, so no compatibility issues should arise.
