In Writer, select Tools > AutoCorrect Options > go to Options tab > uncheck Apply Numbering > OK

It's off, and it still does it. Version:

amen! Wow that has been so frustrating for so many years, I can't even begin to tell you! It was getting so bad I resorted to writing everything in a text file and then pasted to libreoffice to apply the finishing touches, but even then issues would arise where the auto-feature would alter the document in an adverse manner. Thanks so much for keeping this page up (now lets take down all those other pages that give wrong advice";-)
