How do I save a template as a file?

I have a template in a .ott file that I need to update. I can make the changes with no problem, but when I go to “Save As Template” I don’t get a “Save As” interface, I get a “Template Manager”. I don’t want to use some weird alternate filing system, I want to save this template as an ordinary file, just like the template I opened when I started editing.

Does the Window Title Bar (at the very top of window) show “filename.ott”? You should be able to click “Save” and it will be okay. If you want to create a separate file, use Save As.

If you opened your .ott file and window bar shows “Untitled1”, then try “Save As”, change file format type to .ott (template) and overwrite your file.

If you want this to be your default blank file you will have to use the Template Manager. Follow this link: How to Update Default Template

It was “Untitled 1”, and “Save As” type “ODF Text Document Template” did what I wanted. Thanks!

The Template Manager is (also) used to present templates for use with the menu New > Templates. Instead of storing these templates in a particular directory to have them show up, you need to “register” them using the Template Manager.
