I do not understand your description. Your first example looks the same as the second example. Please try another description.

@vet: +3karma-points – now you can upload an image/file.

thanks, screenshot added.

@vet – You can manage the real appearence in your document via the Options tab → Show sublevels – either for “Level 1–10” or for a single level.

See: numbering-styles-options.png

Rather than Format > Bullets and Numbering… > Outline tab, try and use Tools > Outline Numbering…, to manage the outline numbering for the various heading levels. Outline numbering demands the use of styles in preference to ad hoc formatting.

ah, thanks! didn’t know of it before. thank you

@oweng - The positioning of “Outline numbering” under Tools is really unlucky. When I started with LibO it took me a long time until I found that this is located under Tools where I searched under Format. Is there a certain reason for position under Tools?

@ROSt53, outline numbering is unique form of numbering that needs separate management for convenience. It relates to 10 different definitions that are more easily managed in a single location rather than editing 10 different paragraph styles. I would be happy if the term “outline” (and all uses) were removed from under the Format menu (and when editing paragraph styles), as once outline numbering is set it is not possible to change numbering by editing a paragraph style anyway.

This thread triggered a test and I found that there seems to be a bug at heading level 9 & 10.
LibO 4.1.5.3 / XP/SP3

The screenshot shows what I get when is use up to 10 levels of headings. It shows also that in the case of levels 9 & 10 a tab occurs.

Next I compared the settings. From level 1 ot level 10 all settings for the indent are the same. As examples I show the level 8 and level 9

Did I make a mistake or do we have a bug?

“From level 1 ot level 10 all settings for the indent are the same.” I do not know why this would be. Under v4.1.4.2 and v4.2.0.4 I get a clean result without issue. It does however look like you are using Format > Paragraph… rather than Tools > Outline Numbering… > Position tab, as I indicate in my answer. Note also that there are tabs at all levels between the leading identifier and heading text.
