Distorted formula and no more "breaking" in Impress

Dear community,

I use libreoffice and Impress on a almost daily basis and feel quite at home over there, however one problem keeps bugging me:

Usually, all formulas I use are distorted after saving and later opening a presentation. Distorted means that they are resized extremely such that only the first symbol might be visible on the page, the rest extends far to the right side.

I have been circumventing this problem for a long time by “breaking” the equation, an option you will find in the context menu when right-clicking a formula. In version 4.2.3.3 (Build ID 420m0) this also does not work anymore. I only get some exclamationmarks rather than the formula being broken into single characters.

So the last workaround possible is now to convert the formula to a bitmap and save the file for later presentation. Of course that neither looks very good nor does it allow me the change the expression ever again.

I use libreoffice under various version of ubuntu.

Can someone help with this problem?

Regards,

Thomas

I have no problems with formulas, therefore some questions: Do you save in .odp format or do you use another format? Can you please attach a test document? Do you remember, when you first noticed the problems? Does the wrong display remain, when you switch to edit mode of the Math object and switch back? Does the problem remain, when you click item “Original size” from the context menu? Can you please test, whether the problem is solved with a daily build or with a new user profile?

Dear Regina,

Do you save in .odp format or do you use another format?

I tried odp and fodp. Both yield the same problem.

Do you remember, when you first noticed the problems?

I asked a similar question over here about one year ago

however, the problem has been pending for a longer time.

Does the wrong display remain, when you switch to edit mode of the Math object and switch back?

yes

Does the problem remain, when you click item “Original size” from the context menu?

No. It will then go back to the normal size but only till the next save/open operation.

I just tried to create an new file with the problem. I have been saving as fodp for a long time because odp sometimes distorted my vector graphics. However now, when using the regular .odp format it seems to work. Will try to work with odp for the next few days. Hopefully, I’ll not see the problem again. Otherwise I’ll get back to this.

BTW: Breaking (with right-context menu → break) the formula still does not work but if my expressions do not get distorted that function is not that important for me anymore.

Thanks for your help so far.

Thomas
