You can set your line spacing in the Style & Formatting window (F11)

tab paragraph style > tab indents and spacing > Line Spacing

or you can select the part of the text where you want to change line spacing. In this case do

Format > Paragraph > tab indents and spacing > Line Spacing

or right click into a paragraph or selected text and select Line Spacing.

If you use a version newer or same as 4.2 you can do the same also in the sidebar and properties tab.

I recommend to read the free of charge Writer guideline which you can download from http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

It is not line spacing. it is an issue with letter spacing.
thanks anyway.

On the mac, the line spacing does not work. You can get single space or double space but nothing in between.
