I installed LO 5.0.0 RC 4, and subsequently installed the help pack. But when I invoke F1 Help or use the LO Help (lifesaver) icon in the Draw application, I still get online wiki help pages. Do I need to do something else to enable the help that I installed?

Are you sure the language of the help pack and that of your user interface are identical?

@Lupp, great suggestion, and easy to check. It turns out that I do have the same languages (en-us) for both. Thanks.

If you have checked everything out as Lupp suggests & you still get the same silly symptom, try resetting your Profile:

A corrupt profile can cause such problems. Fortunately, it is easy to fix (and to reverse):

Re-Setting the User Profile to Fix Corruption:

  1. Close down LO/OO + the Quickstarter
  2. Go to your profile
(Note: 5.x currently uses same Profile locations as 4.x - see below)
  3. Rename the folder
  4. Restart the program
    (this re-creates a default Profile)
  5. Restart LO & try again

Extra + Updates:

Strangely, LO maintains 2 pages in the Wiki for documentation on the User Profile:-

  1. New (3.x + 4.x docs) at /UserProfile
  2. Old (based on a 3.x tutorial) at /Documentation/UserProfile

Working on the assumption that the 5.x Profile is located in the same place as the 4.x Profile (Later edit: in fact, that assumption is bogus, as current 5.x uses 4.x locations for the Profile):-

I suggest that you create a \5 folder for yourself; use the identical location as the \4 folder, but create an empty \5 folder whilst LO+Quickstarter are OFF. Restart your OS, then LO. Now re-check the Profile & make sure that you have a personal folder inside that location. Also, let's hope that some banana hasn't decided to alter the Profile location. Again.

(I've changed the links above to refer to the new docs)

When you update from an old (eg 3.x) to a newer (eg 4.x) version of LO it offers to transfer your personal settings. It does that by using the current settings in the old profile. Often, the new settings have a different file format than the old. Normally, it is fine to say "yes" when asked if you want them to be transferred. However, if you then suffer weird problems, you are supposed to be able to fix them by the above method. The long-unacknowledged & unfixed issue in all this is that the Profile is prone to corruption.

If this helps then please tick the answer (✔).

@Alex Kemp, thanks for the suggestion. The profile name suggested by the Wiki article you pointed me to is: C:\Users\<user name="">\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\3\user. I assume the "3" is because the documentation was for LO 3.x. In my case, I found ...\LibreOffice\4\user, but no ...\LibreOffice\5 folder, as I would expect for LO 5. I did rename my ...\4\user folder, but it did not fix the problem. I will search Bugzilla and maybe open a new bug. (continued on next comment)

(continued) ...@Alex Kemp: on the assumption that this is a LO bug, I will mark the question as answered, but please feel free to append your answer with anything else that you think might be helpful. Thanks!

@Alex Kemp, it turns out that the LO 5 pathname really is supposed to have the "4"; this was done by design, to avoid migration problems. See my Bugzilla entry 93057 ( ) for details. So, we are back to the question of why I am not getting the downloaded help, despite erasing and recreating my profile. If you don't have any other ideas, I will re-open one of the bug reports that deal with this issue. Thanks!

Thanks for the bug link. I've edited my response to reflect that info.

Recreating a default Profile has not fixed your bug, so I think that it is fair to say that you have discovered a bug. I am concerned that the side-issue of the 5.x Profile location has clouded the main thrust of your bug report.
