Does your LibreOffice also randomly crash when saving larger files with images? Back to OpenOffice, sorry

I try to compose a scientific paper with LibreOffice 3.6.1, which includes seven Figures, inported as .emf Enhanced Metafile Data from a save of OpenOffice Draw. The total size of the .odf document is about 15 MB, which is large but not overly large.

However, when I try to save the document as odf, LibreOffice will randomly crash during saving. Add a new Figure, save - crash. Add a caption to the Figure, save - crash. Change the font size of that caption, save - crash. Maybe on every third attempt or so it won’t crash, but the other times I need to restore the document back to the last state and redo all changes since then. As I am a scientist and this is part of my work, I simply cannot afford such behaviour. It takes an enormous amount of time.

I uninstalled completely, and went back to LibreOffice 3.5, but the result was the same. Finally, in order to get this document done, I went back to OpenOffice, and this seems to be more stable in this respect.

Sorry to report this, do others have similar experiences? Or even any solutions?

(Operating system: Win7 Ultimate, 64bit; 8GB of RAM, Intel Core i7 processor)

I dont have this problem

- 14MB document (all LO....no mix of LO/PDF)
- 250 pages
- 130 pictures (I use bitmaps to copy visio into the doc....the visio filter is a waste of time and effort).

I will say 3.6.x is a major step backwards in terms of stability and actual file operations in windows

3.5.6 seems fine.

That said…I am beginning to consider moving back to OO myself

LibO 3.5.6 is problem version, especially if to work with doc, xls and ppt files. Sometimes after saving such file with LibO it could not be opened anymore in 3.5.6. MS Office and LibO 3.6.1 open such files without problems

O try the 3.5.7, seems to be very stable. http://www.libreoffice.org/download/?type=win-x86&lang=en-US

You need to report a bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice with detailed description, problem file and screenshots (if available).

Hi,

I work with LibO 3.5.4.2 that’s the current deployment on my company.

A couple weeks ago, I also needed to find out alternatives to work on a large ODT file (a customer tech manual with 250 pages / 20 MB) with dozens of paragraphs with the exact same structure : a text introduction, a table with some specifications and a couple pictures about each topic. After some tries, I was able to edit the document using ApacheOO 3.4 and a old IBM Symphony 3.

I’m asking IT personnel about availability to latest LibO release, maybe more stable with this document.

Best regards,

Carlos

I do have the same problem when trying to save in odt a large file of 230 pages / 33 Mo. Ramdomly, when saving as, the LibreOffice stops and closes. The file is not saved and when restarting LO, the backup file has nothing of last amendments. The added pages must be reentered.
I deleted the full version of LO 3 6 4 included the files in restricted AppData and ApplicationData - reinstalled LO 3 6 4 in full and got the same problem.
I reinstalled the OpenOffice 3.3 and I do not have any problems to save my large file.
