Can Draw (4.4.5) dimensions be added w/o a number, in cm or "?

I use Draw to create engineering diagrams for use in Impress presentations. I’m beginning to use Dimensions – once I figured out how to access and configure them. It’s nice that they work at any angle.

But Is there any way to replace the default number (e.g. 2.39" or 0.57cm) with arbitrary text (e.g. Channel Length or Fin Width)? This would be extremely useful in scientific drawings. Simply overlaying the default number with a Text Box is not a good option, since the background color in these diagrams is often a gradient, not just a solid fill. Neither is simply whiting out the number, or similar workarounds that really defeat the feature’s usefulness.

Hi

I am not sure to understand… You can edit text of dimension lines: e.g. Double click, or F2 when selected.

Your text is preserved when resizing.

Thank you, Pierre-Yves!! I did not realize you could do this. As long as the Dimension lines stayed selected,
it would not let me edit the number – even though an I-beam cursor appeared. Once I deselect, then the I-beam cursor works, as you stated. Neither was I aware that pressing F2 would let you edit text,
with or without the Dimension selected. I’ve always found F2 confusing, since it’s used to Insert as well as edit textboxes. Your input helps me understand its usage.
