How to modify bullet style in Impress?

Hello, on my installation Impress place by default bullets too close to the text, so I want to change this formatting.

I know how to do it if I select the relevant text and then I apply bullet formatting, but is there a way to set the style globally for the whole presentation ?

The problem is that in impress it seems that there is no bullet style at all… even if you click on a text style, you don’t have the tab about numbering.
So, I am lost on how to change default formatting for bullets (and lists) in Impress.

Hi

  • Edit Master page (Display Mode in Standard toolbar for recent versions, or SidebarMaster PagesRight clickEdit)
  • Right Click the level you want to customize▸Bullets and NumberingPosition tab▸Width of numbering: according to you needs (e.g. 2cm in CustomizeBullet.odp)

[EDIT]

Sorry, my answer was about styles: it was induced by your question which evoked the styles (How to modify bullet style), did not evoke the text boxes, and especially by the fact that I never use the latter in a slideshow because this Is not the right tool for me…

With text boxes what you are asking is possible by creating a custom Graphic Style. In the test_bulletsPYS.odp attached I created MyBullets as follows:

  • Draw a text box, enter text, Right-ClickBullets and Numbering to apply a custom bullet.
  • Select the text box by holding down the left click until the zone flashes (1 to 2 sec). The cursor changes, showing that it is possible to move, keep clicking and drag&drop the text box in the styles window, release the click, give a name to the style. A short video (in french & for Writer, but the principle is the same and the text does not matter) show the steps.

You can now apply the style to all of your text boxes. In the sample file you can select all of them and double click in the style window on “MyBullets”.

Regards

I noticed you have to put the cursor on the right side of the bullet text, just after “format” or “Level”. If you put the cursor on one word of the bulleted text, you don’t have the contextual “Bullets and Numbering…” option.

Tested in LibreOffice 5.5. Fedora 24.

This works on the text that you add to a slide trough the special “Add text here” widget when you add a new slide, but not on the text that you add on your own, e.g. adding a text box.

That is how I understood the question. I modified my answer based on this new information.

It is not possible to change list styles in libreoffice impress, other than on the automatic frame that you get with “Add text here” for new slides.

Sadly, if the presentation has been originally imported ,or for any other reason, it shows a strange “default” behaviour with bullets, you are stuck with it and you have to manually change the formatting manually on any list instance.

This is an example of presentation that it is stuck with a problem in identation:

After you define your bullet style as in the previous answer, you may use layouts to create new slides (e.g. Slides > Slide Layout > Title, 2 Content, or using the Properties sidebar), and create bullets using the outlines in the layout. You can copy&paste outlines to create more. Afterwards, if you modify the bullet style, the changes will spread to all the slides using those outlines.

Second solution posted by pierre-yves samyn works for me in Impress.
