Please, what is your Operating System and LibreOffice version? Do you use the native format .ods to save?

Take a look to this thread, it is about writer default template, but it is the same for calc. http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/324/setting-up-the-original-template-document/

Calc saves all user-defined formats in the actual file NOT in the program. You can define all your formats and save the workbook as a template .ots. Next time you need a new document, open the template, modify it and use save as for saving it as an .ods file.
