Macosx sierra / LibreOffice UX questions

Hi - I used StarOffice and OpenOffice extensively back in the day (I was at Sun when they acquired StarDivision); I’ve also used NeoOffice. So I’m not a newbie to using OpenDocument products. I am struggling to make sense of the UX on macosx Sierra though.

  1. The preferences dialog forces my screen into tabbed mode, and cuts off the top line. I don’t think it was anything important but maybe I am missing something. See preferences image.

  2. The “Save As” dialog takes the full window (completely covering my document) and again forces it to tabbed mode, cutting off the top few pixels of the dialog (I’m sure it’s something important but I can’t see it). See screen capture

  3. There is insufficient spacing between items in the left hand side of the preferences dialog.

Are there settings I can change to make this a slightly more Mac-like experience? Or should I spin up a Linux VM?

Thanks!

Usually it’s enough renaming/deleting the file “user/registrymodifications.xcu”, it affects all the options in Menu/Tools/Options, and the files “user/basic/dialog.xlc” and “scrip.xlc” are overwritten, additionally custom colors in “user/config/standard.soc” are lost.

Ok, that was a partial solution - the save as dialog looks better but I think because it is using the MacOS one now.

I compared with a friend (who is on the same version of macos). LibreOffice looks fine on his machine. He is on LibreOffice 5.2.2.2; I was on 5.2.5 this morning and just updated to 5.3.0.3. I think the problem could be that I have an older Macbook pro without a retina display. I’ll uninstall and grab the installer he used to check.

Pls take a look on Is 5.2.2 LibreOffice upgrade compatible with Mac OS Sierra?

I seem to have narrowed this down to a problem with non-retina displays. Using:

  • LibreOffice 5.2.2 (the same version as my friend)
  • macOS Sierra (10.12.3) (same as my friend)
  • clearing the user registry (as described above)

The spacing and dialogs look fine on his Macbook Pro (15-inch, Early 2013); and the spacing is wrong on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011). He says “buy a new Mac” .
