Why is it normal for Writer to insert blank pages when merging data?

Many users run into the behaviour of Writer inserting blank pages when merging data, like this question: extra blank pages when printing label merge file and this one: Alternating blank envelopes.

Can someone please explain why there are automatically inserted blank pages in the first place? When will they ever be useful?

That’s a great question! (I’ve used all my upvotes for today, sorry)

An extremely good question!!!

Another question about inserted blank pages: How can the Title Page be configured so as not to insert a blank page?

Don’t find the bug anymore but I think it is a wrong set option by default.

  1. Menue:File->Print, Tab Libreoffice Writer: Uncheck “Print automatically inserted Pages”.

  2. Also in Menue:File->Print Settings, Button “Option”, uncheck the same.

In 4.0 it is corrected by default, not sure about 3.6.5.

This makes also troubles with Mail Merge letters and labels.

@horst – Do you know why these pages are being inserted in the first place? Maybe this is a question for us to hand over to the Doc Team.

@qubit1 As I understood it is just one of the many options to setup by default and sombody put a checkmark in. LO4.0 does not have it.

@horst
In 3.6.5 the menu is the same. I just checked it. Thanks for the hint/.

@JannieT - If @horst hint does not provide the solution, please file a bug report.
