Format of time inside formula bar in Calc?

Consider this example (LOffice/Calc v 4.2.8.2):

  • Open a new Calc document
  • select first cell, type in 12:31, then [ENTER]
  • Calc automatically shows it as 12:31:00 PM
  • Don’t like this format, so select the cell, right-click, Format Cells… → then choose Category: Time, Format: 13:37 (Format code: HH:MM), press OK
  • Now the cell itself is in 24h format

However, if I’d want to edit the cell from the formula bar, I can notice the format in the formula bar is still the same old one with AM/PM:

And this irritates me majorly, because I’m used to 24h display, and I tend to write say 13:00 in the bar (or cell), upon which I immediately get an error, since there is no 13 in 12h display.

So how can I change the default display of the formula bar to be 24h time display, so I can enter times like 13:00 or 19:12 without a problem?

Hi

I do not have this problem (my interface is in French) but I reproduce what you describe by selecting the English USA language (Format Cells> Numbers tab).

With my configuration selecting English (UK) solves the problem.

Fantastic, @PYS → that worked great! First I selected the cell, right click Format Cells / Numbers and just changed Language to English (UK), whose default is HH;MM:SS and forced the formula bar to that display; then I reselected cell and applied HH:MM number format again, to have the same display as in OP - but the formula remained in 24h HH:MM:SS, which is great. Thanks for that, cheers!

“Fantastic,”? Absolutely fantastic it would be if the outdated and stubborn formats for dates and times finally vanished everywhere. The current state of “localization” is a mess anyway - and it is growing worse.
A first step of recovery might be an “ISO-locale” for Calc. No extras! Empty thesaurus, All ‘Autocorrect’ and ‘Autotext’ features off. What a wonderful world. I would even accept a decimal point. Despite …
Look at the date format used on the surface of this funny “forum”. Oh my …
