Activation of external links

I have just updated my libreoffice to 7.2.2.2 which may account for my problem.
I have created a spreadsheet in Calc which uses external links to Sharescope. Previously, when I opened Sharescope, then the spreadsheet, I got a window saying that the link was available and did I want to connect to it. Sometimes I do want to connect in order to update my spreadsheetand with latest share prices, but sometimes I simply want to review the spreadsheet without updating it, so this was a very useful feature to have.
Now, however, when I start the spreadsheet, a warning window appears which says “automatic updating of external links has been disabled”.
I have gone to “Tools/options/libreoffice calc/general/update links when opening”, then I have ticked the box which says “on request” but this doesn’t seem to make any difference.
Can anyone tell me how to regain my previous window which gave me the option of connecting, or not connecting, to the external link when opening the spreadsheet?

For those of us not familiar with Sharescope, can you tell us what the link was? That is, what link did you actually put in your spreadsheet? For a simple link to another spreadsheet with LO 7.2.2.2, the following works as expected:
In the linking (consumer) document, I use Tools-Options-LibreOffice Calc-General-Update links when opening-Always (from trusted sources). Then I select the directory of the external (provider) document as a trusted location via Tools-Options-LibreOffice-Security-Macro Security-Trusted Sources-Trusted File Locations-Add… then I no longer get the warning message when opening the linking (consumer) document.

Joshua, thanks for your reply.

Sharescope is an online service that provides live information on daily share prices on the London Stock Exchange (and others). I use it to monitor my share prices more or less daily, then at the end of each month I make the link with my Officelibre spreadsheet to download that day’s share prices. The spreadsheet enables me to keep a long term record of how my share portfolio has performed month by month

The link I use is unique to each share and typically the link for Diageo shares is: =DDE(“ShareScopeDDE”,“LSE_DGE”,“CLOSE”)

I have tried the procedures you suggest. I entered the trusted file as “C:/Sharescope”, but then I clicked “on request” instead of “always” because I do not want the update every time I open the spreadsheet. Unfortunately it didn’t work and when I open the spreadsheet I still get the message “Automatic update of external links has been disabled.” There is, however, a button to click to “allow updating”.

Before I updated Libre office from version 5 to 7.2.2.2 I used to get a small window when I opened the spreadsheet to ask if I wanted to update. I could then select yes or no, which was exactly the choice I wanted.

Having thought about it all whilst composing this email, maybe it is offering the same choice as I had before, but the other way round, so I will see if that is indeed the case over the next month.

I do appreciate the help you have given, and I trust you now understand what Sharescope is.

Regards, Jim
