Adding images to Libre Document driving my crazy, please help this newbie

I’m a personal property appraiser (stuff, not houses) and my end product is a document with descriptions, values and photos. Unhappy with you know who wanting to charge me monthly for what I’ve already paid for, and having to put what I think is confidential info online, I’m giving Libre a try.
My problem is with adding photos to the doc. I’ll have a few items described, then add a line of 4-5 photos, then continue with more descriptions and prices. First image I click to the left, import it, size it down, no problem. Second photo, same thing. But 3rd photo the curser insists on sitting between the two existing images, can only move it below. So import, drag to be just right on the previous image, and the images take on a life of their own, often hopping to the right, sometimes hopping onto the next page etc. I’ve played with all of the settings, nothing seems to work. Is there a way to get images to drag and drop where I want them and just stay put? Thanks in advance for your help

To make it work like Microsoft Word, in the menu click Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer - Formatting Aids and change Anchor to As character. OK out.

The images will act like big characters, you will have to cut and paste into position if they are in the wrong place but they won’t overlap.

Ernest Al thank you some much! That works perfectly, so you have saved me hours of frustration with this answer.
