If I add a word to dictionary during spell check of a document, will this mean only for that file or all libre office documents I will create from then on? If so, will it apply onlhy to the ones I start as new file or even if an older file too?
It will add the word for all documents that are or will be spell checked now and in the future.
.
By contrast, Ignore will ignore the word only for this session. If you open the document again and check spelling the word will be flagged again.
.
To remove a word from the user dictionary:
- Click Tools > Spelling (F7). Close the confirmation pop-up.
- Click the options button
- Under user-defined dictionaries, select standard [All] and click the *Edit button
- In the new dialogue, look for the unwanted word, select it and click the Delete button.
Help: Spelling
OK. And this addition to dictionary only applies to that language right? For example if I did this for a document in English then it will be as you say only for English documents in the future and if I wrote another document in German its dictionary will still be unaffected correct?
I said “all documents”. So not limited to any language. This is useful for names and technical terms
.
The link to Help that I gave had a highlighted callout:
To add a new dictionary, press Options, then press New. After LibreOffice is restarted, multiple user-defined dictionaries are shown when Add to Dictionary is pressed. Select which dictionary should receive the added word.
There is no reason why you shouldn’t create a German user dictionary and an English user dictionary.
