Alternating Row formula creates havoc

This would be bad practice, indeed. However, it does not freeze the application on my systems.

P.S. I copy an arbitrary row of my sample sheet, select the rest of the 4 columns and paste-special formats only. This takes a few seconds util the sheet becomes usable.

Program to run slow??? What does that mean?

Never understood his proposal in the first place as mentioned above. He states my cell styles are not correct, not how to correct them. When I follow his advice I get what I shared. So obviously the issue will not be resolved unless I am given the advice of how to correct the program to actually set to a standard default when clicking on standard default.

My sheet is unusable. the program is unresponsive for over 30 minutes EVERYTIME I TRY IT.

My sheet isn’t. Show yours.

It might be best to start with some assistance on cell styles, Cell Styles in Calc - The Document Foundation Wiki

You will notice that except for Font, where you might want to set the font for all child styles, it says to create a new style for other formatting. This is particularly important for Numbers which should not be changed in Default Cell Style otherwise some formats won’t work as expected . If you do change it inadvertently, then the way to set it back to what it should be is to click the button Standard and OK.

To get Default cell style back to factory settings:

  1. Right click Default cell style and select Edit style
  2. Select each tab in turn and click the Standard button. OK
  3. Repeat Step 1 and look at the Organiser tab, it will probably have “White, Not Transparent” showing still. Click the Background tab and click the Standard button again. OK. Cecheck again.

To fix the sheet AR

  1. Click in Cell A1 and press Ctrl+Shift+End to select to the end of your range.
  2. Double click Default cell style in the sidebar. The rows to row 1002 will show an alternating colour.
  3. Click in cell A63 and click Format > Merge and unmerge cells > Unmerge cells. Merged cells cause unnecessary complications.
  4. Click in Cell A1 and press Ctrl+Shift+Down Arrow twice to select to the bottom of range Invoice. Click Format > Cells and in the Numbers tab select Date and choose and appropriate date format. OK
  5. Select A1003:F1003 then press Ctrl+Shift+Down Arrow and wait until it has selected down to the bottom of the sheet. Double click Default cell style.
  6. Click Format > Conditional > Manage.
    1. In the dialogue select the conditional format and click Edit
    2. In the bottom of the new dialogue under cell range, change F1048576 to F1002 (or F63 if preferred). OK OK
