My wife is the treasurer of a local charity organisation. Many years ago I set up a suite of Excel files to replace the old paper based system of recording and calculating donations on a two-weekly, monthly and annual basis. She only has to add coins, notes and cheques and Excel does all the calculations and produces a formatted report. She is planning to resign as treasurer which means that she might be replaced by someone without Microsoft Office and with little spreadsheet knowledge. If LibreOffice was sufficiently compatible with Excel I could switch to LibreOffice and write operating instructions. Are they sufficiently compatible for me to do this?
If you use formulas with basic functions (sums, multiplications, roundings, …) then you should not have any issue. If you have macros, then you will have some work to do. Try opening your excel documents in LibreOffice and see if they work.
