Apply gradient as background to the whole page

Is it possible and if yes how to apply a gradient as a background to a whole page in LibreOffice Writer?

My unsatisfying solution right now is to insert the gradient as an image, send it to the background and stretch it. This makes it difficult to change colours afterwards and also suffers from a bug so that I can not edit the text that is written on the page any more.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!

If you create a Graphic which is a gradient you can do it. This is a kind of a workaround.

First, thank you for your answer. As I mentioned in the question this is what I do right now, but has several drawbacks so that I asked for a different solution.
