I have LO open with the tabbed UI. How is it that there is a menu bar with “File, Edit, View, Insert…” and under that another line of tabs “File, Home, Insert, Layout, References…” So tabs with File and View and Insert are found on both lines, but the other tab names are found on just one of those two lines? Confused…
In computing there is always more than one way to do the same thing.
The tabbed interface is a reduced interface to match the cut down one in Microsoft Office. It cannot be customised much at all, call it training wheels for people moving from Word. Best to familiarise yourself where the menu commands are and consider one of the other UI interfaces when you are confident.
The menubar can contain more commands because of its compact size but at a cost of slower access. It does show keyboard shortcuts which can be easily learned, speeding up access. Instructions for use generally refers to the menu items, not to icons, not even for the Standard toolbar.
