Autocorrect -- edig the list of words, replacement table manually? where is the replacement list text-file, location?

Hi,

I wonder where we can find a text file or tiny database (sqlite?) with the words to be replaced and their replacements?

I’m talking about the autocorrect options.

My problem:
It is full of … emoji, plus in Hungarian they use lots of idiot words, and arrogantly auto-change my words to the idiot words that I would never use.
They (these arrogant changes) take my freedom plus ruin my language for everybody :frowning:

If I could edit the text file or the database file directly (without the mediation / UI of Libreoffice which gives you limited freedom only), I would take out tons of words… starting with all the idiot emoji…
(If you chat you don’t need a text editor / if you do text, you don’t need emoji – I’m talking about the European aspect).

In Hungarian, they take the language of the primitive people (who watch tic-toc and violent and stupid television / online shows) as the standard, and correct everybody’s according to that, which is the opposite of what education and literacy means, I mean, originally :slight_smile:

I would really appreciate if I could edit the “replacement table”, whatever name we call it by, so, thank you in advance !! :slight_smile:

(I can’t translate those stupid words, and so I can’t give you examples, cause they are mostly primitive localized translations of English words, phonetically writing selfie, for example, which in Hungarian looks gross… showing you belong to the linguistic-zombies who give sh about the language they use :))

You might look at Tools | Options | LibreOffice | Paths which will give you the locations where you can find related files. They are zipped files.

Unfortunately, this is like “level 4 difficulty”, of 5 :slight_smile:
Cause we have to locate, unzip the dictionary, identify the XML,
open it for editing…
edit it, save it, save a backup, in case anything goes “wrong”…
then zip it up again… and rename it… overwriting the original…

piece of cake, so far :slight_smile:

However, I haven’t mentioned the part, which I especially hate, the preparation of the XML file…
I mean, the XML file has no spaces, no line breaks…
and its not human-readable…

So, you need to structure the text… by adding line breaks at tags…
which you’ll have to redo at the end…

This task is something which 98 people of 100 (in European non-tech universities) wouldn’t be able to do… unless familiar with coding…

Question to myself:
why Do I need autoreplace at all?
Well, because of the dashes… and quotation marks…
so sad :slight_smile:

Hi,

on the very topic of XML editing, you might use a dedicated text editor with XML capabilities.

I think of two here (others certainly exist):

  • Windows only: Notepad++ plus its XMLTools plugin.
  • Windows/Linux: Geany plus its PrettyPrinter XML plugin.

Such editors bring a tremendous help in XML structuring.

As for XML structure checking, I like the XmlLint tool (https://xmllint.com/) which I find to be very useful. The XML checking is done locally on the computer, thus nothing is shared with anyone (so they say).

Hi,

I use Geany, but to be sure, I don’t want to “edit” the XML doc,
I only want to delete all lines minus a few…
The problem is only that there are no lines :slight_smile:
But I can handle this with Geany…

editing (deleting entries) works…

however, re-zipping doesn’t seem to work…
Libreoffice will have no autocorrect option for the selected (tinkered) language…
You add one? sure…
But that won’t work, either…

So, my solution is to delete that acor_hu-HU.dat file…
and open Libreoffice Writer, set the language (Hungarian, in this case),
and add my first entry:

– (replace to) –

This works :slight_smile:

I had no problem modifying the acor_hu-HU.dat file — LibreOffice interprets the new file as expected.

What OS is yours?

I have made mistakes… such as replacing \n to “n” only :slight_smile:
and leaving Libreoffice “running” while overwriting the .dat file…
but eventually I performed it properly,… or at least I thought I did…

I don’t know anything about the zip method…
but it vaguely seems familiar to me that the way my machine (any linux machine) does zipping is not the same as how Libreoffice expects it…
I may have only dreamed this :slight_smile:
So, it’s good to know that it works…

Windows 11, 64 bit

I used 7-zip to unzip the .dat file, then opened the DocumentList.xml file with Notepad++, set the “Pretty print” option (provided by the XML Tools plugin mentioned by @jfn) and added/deleted some entries. Rezipped the files (.dat extension), and voila!
