Automatic save Question

When CALC automaitcally saves a file, If the file exists and has NOT been changed Does CALC ignore the SAVE, or is the file over written ?
If the file on the HD is the same as is being checked for auto save is the time and date updated ?

Seems like a burden on the HD if not.

Create a sizeable spreadsheet by dragging content down, say, 500,000 cells so you can “see it save”. Go into Options and set Autosave to 1 minute. Make a change to the spreadsheet anywhere. Now wait for 1.5 minutes. Does it save? Now save it manually. Wait another 1.5 minutes. Does it save?

I think it won’t do an autosave unless the spreadsheet is “dirty”. I’ve tested some things related to autosave before, and that seems to be what I noticed, but that’s just a rough idea.

In fact, it automatically saves and recovers, if there is a problem. It is not saved over the original file, but in a specific file for recovery.

Notice that when changes are made and the autosave has just occurred, if you try to close the file it gives the alert to save.
