Base used to open my sqlite database automatically; now it doesn't

LO v 7.5.1, Ubuntu 23.04

I have a bunch of sqlite files that I used to be able to open automatically by double-clicking on them. Double-clicking would open Base, which would connect automatically to the sqlite database.

I have no idea what changed, but now when I double-click on the files, it opens in Writer, which of course complains that the files are corrupted. This happens even though I set my file browser to “Open with” Base for sqlite files.

If I do things the long way, ie, open up Base and then register the database, and select which driver, etc etc, I can open the database file successfully, but this is very cumbersome since I have many sqlite files I just want to explore quickly. And I get new sqlite files all the time, that I want to quickly explore.

What happened? Why can’t I just double-click to open them anymore?

I have no idea what happened to change things. I tried downgrading LO to like v6, and still double-clicking doesn’t work. Is there a package or something I might have removed by accident?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try
→Right_click→open with…( choose ……LO_base )… and tick Option x open every time with …

No, unfortunately that doesn’t work.

I even tried to open with a custom command:
libreoffice --base

That still opens Writer instead of Base.

I am really confused, how could that be possible. I suppose that Base was never able to open anything except ODB files. At best, some “database” files (like dBase) could open as Calc tables.

Base files could connect to SQLite database files.

The only possibility is to open a Base file, which connects to the SQLite database file but never open a Base file by opening a SQLite database file.

All I can tell you is that Base used to open my .sqlite files automatically, and now it doesn’t. My file manager even used special Base icons to depict the .sqlite files. Now for some reason, the Base icons have disappeared, right around the same time that Base stopped opening the .sqlite files properly.

In the meantime I’ve discovered and installed sqlitebrowser which does everything I need for now.

Certainly not. You opened a Base document (.odb) connected to some sqlite file. On Windows, with hidden file name extensions, you can’t always know what you are actually doing.

Note this:

Ah, yes. Nevertheless, LibreOffice does not open any database files other than odb documents that may be connected to some kind of database.
