Blank/gray screen upon opening document

I am using LibreOffice 6.4 on Trisquel GNU/Linux 8.0.

Whenever I open document, LibreOffice writer launches with a blank/gray screen and it sounds not attempting to open the document but when I minimize the window, it attempts to open the the document which I can see by again maximizing the window.

What should be the reason behind this issue and how do I troubleshoot this?

At right in the bottom toolbar, you have view controls:

The 'book mode" (group of mirrored pages) may be activated. What happens when you click on the single page mode icon?

No, single page mode is only active.
