Bookmark Dialog too wide and can't resize it narrower in LibreWriter

I am using LibreWriter 7.4.7.2 Win64 using ODT file format. I am running it on Win10 64bit desktop computer. Screen resolution is 1920 x 1080.

When I open the Bookmarks using Insert > Bookmarks, the dialog gets displayed but it is much too wide. I have dual monitors and it takes up almost 2 full monitor screens (each are 1920x1080) which makes it roughly 3500 pixels across.

I can resize it vertically and resize it wider, but I can’t decrease the width. This only happens with the current document and it is a very large document. Doing a File Save As… and creating a new document won’t fix the problem. I’m at a loss as how to fix it. The document is too large to create an empty document and do a paste into the new document.

If I use Window Display properties to change the display resolution to say 1024x768, it still occupies both monitors. If I use this same Window Display properties to NOT extend the multiple displays and use only “Show Only on 1” monitor, then the dialog occupies almost the full width of one monitor. Extending the display back to “Extend These Displays” will have the Bookmark dialog occupy the width of almost 2 monitors.

Is there a registry item or global setting where I can reset the Bookmark Dialog width to normal size? Or are there any other suggestions? I don’t have the desk space to get a 3rd monitor (joke).

TIA

And which display ratio are you using in the Windows?

The version 7.4.7.2 is an old version. Nobody will fix it - even isf it is a real issue.
Try a newer version, at least a portable one. You can download it from the archive pages:
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/7.4.7.2/

I just downloaded the the portable 7.4.7 version from that webpage. My display have resolution 1920x1080, and the Windows display ratio is 100%. (And the LO Zoom value is 200%). Here is a screenshot about the Insert - Bookmarks:

Display ratio? Do you mean the text scale? It is 100%.

One of the monitors is a Dell swivel monitor that is in landscape mode. If I set it to portrait mode, the bookmark dialog width will shrink slightly so it fits within the width of the 2 monitors, but still can’t be resized back down to fit in a single monitor.

The Bookmark dialog used to work fine with this document. Then all of a sudden I can’t resize the dialog width so it looks normal. Other ODT documents display the Bookmark dialog just fine, like yours. So it has something to do with the ODT document settings that won’t allow the Bookmark dialog width to be resized.

Does anyone know where this dialog minimum width value is stored?
TIA

Please upload the problematic document here.

Maybe there are existing Bookmarks in your document - with too long Name or Text parameter:

It is a company document so I can’t upload it.

And yes there are bookmarks with long names, but I didn’t think that would affect the ability to resize the bookmark dialog. From a programming point of view, the display of the bookmark name in the grid of the dialog should be truncated or wrapped to another line if it exceeds the column width. The amount of text in a grid cell should not control the width of the grid nor the size of the dialog. That would be like the tail wagging the dog.

I think the only thing I can try is to copy the ODT file to a virtual machine and install the latest LO version in hopes that it will correct it. I normally upgrade LO when a new version comes out, but there was another bookmark bug that made it unusable. I had reported it so hopefully it was fixed too.

Thanks for the help though.

Then you can try it yourself: make a bookmark in a new document with a very long Name and/or Text label.

You’re right. I created a new ODT document and created a long bookmark by copying and pasting text into the Insert Bookmark Dialog. After that, the Bookmark Dialog window can’t be resized smaller than the Name in the bookmark grid. The bookmark dialog table has truncated the display of the Text but not the Name. The Name column is narrow enough to show only the first 20 characters or so. If I rename the Name down to “X1” and close the Bookmark dialog, I can now reopen the Bookmark dialog and resize it. So the large Bookmark Name is preventing the dialog from being resized smaller.

This looks like a bug to me. What do you think?
