Calc: formula formatting lost, if pasted from a text editor

Hello. I noticed a minor issue in Calc.

If I paste text with multiple lines into a cell via the formula bar, it gets all put into a single line. Is this on purpose? Excel didn’t behave like this.

My main need for this is to preserve formula formatting if I paste it from a text editor (it’s more convenient for long formulas and it can check brackets pairing).

It’s low priority, but I’m just reporting the problem :man_shrugging:

Enter in edit mode in the cell [F2] and past there, it works for me.

Ah nice, thanks :+1:

That method worked.
But… after some days I noticed that the spreadsheet lost ALL the formula formatting (spaces and multilines) and put each on 1 line. How can that even happen :sob:

Do you saved as .ods?

No, as .xlsx for compatibility

Yeah, but that’s me. I’m asking also here in case anyone had the same issue or knows how to revert the loss of indentation.

You can fill one table row for each spreadsheet cell, and paste especial (Ctrl+Shift+V) as HTML.

I see no difference in using line breaks (Shift+Enter) or end of paragraphs (Enter) in the table.
This way you can paste content in multiple cells at once.
Tested with LO 24.8.7.2.
