Calc sort table with formulas requires Options setting?

I read the previous discussion and understand it is necessary to use Tools->Options->Calc->General->“Update Refs when Sorting” to get the desired formula update when sorting. If the Calc data is an application intended for distribution then how can that setting be checked by a MACRO to determine if the user’s LibreOffice is configured correctly? Wouldn’t it have been nice if a SORT command included a switch argument to offer a choice at run time? Just a thought. Thanks for your help.
