Calc sorting with formatting

Hi all,

I have a Calc spreadsheet that has both cell border formatting and cell background colour formatting. Is there a way to sort rows while keeping the borders in place but allowing the cell background colour to sort with the rows/cells.

The default sorting options move the borders, unchecking the “include formats” option doesn’t sort the cell colours.

Coming from Excel, this is not how it works.

Feel free to use Excel, if it suits you better…
But please tell, what Excel will do in this case: If borders and background are part of the format, you can either move it when sorting or leave it in place. An automated split (based on DWIM??) seems difficult.
.
As @fpy already mentioned, you can use features like background color via conditional formatting (if you prepared the data apropiately). This can avoid your problems.

The borders would stay in place, but cell colour would move with the sort order.

I did think of conditional formatting, but it wouldn’t be simple. I just wanted to check if I was missing something.

if you can make them Applying Conditional Formatting,
it would stick along sorting.

Thanks, I did think of that, but the colour of the cell isn’t based on the contents. It can also be multiple colours. It would take a lot of conditions to get it working.
