Calc, win 7 64 Borders button stuck on one border type

Hello, I am using libre office for the first time, I have found it is not possible to change the borders as I expected. I want a heavy border around my chosen sheet, I select all as in excel, then I press the click down button on the border button and choose the large square, press that and a border is put on. I want a heavy one though, changing border type by selecting does nothing. It isn’t possible to change border type and then select the large square, that doesn’t hold.

I also notice that the border button never changes, regardless of what I select in the drop down arrow, it always stays on lower border only, is that normal?

Thanks

From the menu, choose Format>Cells ....
In the “Format cells” dialog box, select the “Outline” tab.
Here you can now select the line width, line color and the desired border. Experiment with it a little.

EDIT: You can also use "autoformat templates" and create them yourself.

The documentation for LibreOffice can be found here.

Windows 10 Home; Version 1903; 64-Bit | LibreOffice, Version: 6.2.4.2 (x64).

Thanks, this has enabled me to create the heavier borders around the cells and solved the problem there, albeit a bit more work. I am just wondering why it is not possible to use the border buttons in the menu for this, they don’t work. Surely, I should be able to drag over the contents of the sheet, select the border size with the border size button and then apply it by selecting the large square in the border button.
