I have had this spreadsheet with my product pricing for several years. It is now all of a sudden changing the pricing on it’s own. Going down a row it changes numbers as if counting ie. 100, 101, 102, 103, 104 ect. The cells are formatted as text only? Why is this happening?
Also numeric texts are incremented/decremented when filling a sequence of cells down/up or right/left. It’s working this way even if there is a literal prefix to the numeric part.
This behaviour is not new. You can avoid it by pressing the Ctrl
modifyer while dragging the fill handle.
Hi Wolfgang,
I have been using the program for many years and this has never
happened. I am not aware of the Ctrl Modifyer or fill handle. How do I
do this?
Regards,
I wouldn’t claim to have understood your question. I just guessed what had happened and what you possibly meant by “cells with numbers change on there own” or by “Going down a row it changes numbers as if counting ie. 100, 101, 102”.
Please tell exactly what you had, what you wanted to achieve, what you tried, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened.
…
My guess was that you had a cell and wanted to fill its content (and formatting) down the column into additional cells.
This is mostly done by dragging with the mouse. The little sensitive area for such an action at the bottom right corner of a selected cell is known as “fill handle”.
If you get an unwanted increment/decrement effect, you need to press the Ctrl-key of your keyboard in advance of dragging, and to keep it pressed as long as dragging goes on. This usage of a key is know as “modifying” an action.
The effects I supposed as the background of your complaint, are basically unchanged, however, since the very first version of LibreOffice Calc
after the branching off from OO.o (LibO V 3.3 by digits). In fact they are common heritage of all the branches.
