can I change the cursor color in Write to make it easier to find?

Not as far as I know.
There are different strategies for locating the cursor, it depends on your (unknown) operating system. I use Windows so here are some:

  • Click Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Mouse
    • In the tab Pointer Options you could do one of these
      • Untick Hide pointer while typing
      • Tick the box Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key
    • In the tab Pointers you could see if one of the other schemes works better for you than the default None
  • In Start Menu > Settings > Accessibility > Text cursor you can set the thickness of the text cursor, I wouldn’t go above 3 or 4 though.
Note that the coloured cursor with Text cursor indicator points above and below does not show in LibreOffice, sample from Firefox below (note that extra thickness also set does not show in Firefox)
