I am abandoning the cult. I do have a number of documents created in Pages. Obviously I can tediously export each one by hand but a better option would be if Libre could import them.
It would seem that since the file type is listed as an option that this would indeed work. However I find that executing such an import only results in an empty document and no error message(s) to help identify the failure.

Hello,
see menu File -> Open and see Apple Pages (*.pages) in drop down Filter:. This means, that LibreOffice is capable of reading (importing) Pages documents.
PS: I don’t get the difference of exporting from one application and importing into another. The effort seems to be the same, if you do that manually. So are you in fact asking about some kind of automation?
