Can I roll back to the previous version of Libre Office - latest update changed my documents

Hi,
I just updated to the latest Libre Office version 24.2.1.2 (from I believe two versions earlier) and find my documents have changed…
I use a black font but the headers and footers and end notes are white (I use a Light Gray 1 Document background) so I can see the white.

I am familiar with resetting the universal font color to black at Tools>Options>Application Colors but rebooting after resetting the black font color doesn’t help… I still get a white font on a new document though the font color is set to black. I’d like to revert back to the previous installation…
As well, I don’t know what else might have changed.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help!
PS I have software that automatically updates software… I am getting tired of that

Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

Has the document been changed, or only the screen appearance? What does print preview show?

Support for operating system dark mode is improving so you might be seeing an effect from that.

Maybe the paragraph style for endnotes got changed inadvertently. What colour does the style say under the Font Effects tab?

Otherwise, can you please provide a short, sample without private information which has white endnotes in 24.2 but not in earlier versions

So your first step must be to exclude LibreOffice from this automatic updates, or your planned older version wil be updated again.
.
Then uninstall LibreOffice, and download/ install an older version. You may find even very old versions in the archive at Index of /libreoffice/old

Wanderer…
Thanks for the insight and advice on rolling back to an earlier version…
Looks like my issue is associated with an updated dark mode fix.
I will play with the latest a bit… Thanks!

Yes, the handling of dark mode has changed. You could change the font color in the default styles to the desired color instead of using ‘automatic’. Unfortunately you will need to do that for each document as this is not a global setting but stored in the document.

EarnestAI,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you on your suggestions… In fooling around identifying the problems for responding to you, I discovered that even though parts of my existing documents view in black font and other parts view in white font (body, text header, footer, end notes, etc.,) and new document’s view in white font only… they print just fine… So it appears the problem is associated with dark mode which generates a default white font…

  1. I wonder where the dark mode font choice color is located?

  2. Note, I am using Document Background Light Gray 1 and can’t go any darker because the cursor disappears… Microsoft’s solutions do not help.

  3. I wonder if LO will come up with a cursor solution for a dark document background?

  4. I think I turned dark mode off (see image), i.e., “Light” but nothing seems to change when I rebooted Win 10, i.e., still a white text. The white font may not be so bad on Light Gray 1 document background, but I suppose I’d like a darker document background color

Thanks for what you do!
PS I am reinstalling Win 10 shortly and will make a decision about sticking with the latest LO or rolling back…

Click Start menu > Settings > Accessibility > Text Cursor > Text Cursor thickness and set it to 2 or 3 or more. It should then be clearly visible, set to 3 below:
CursorThicknessSetTo3

Theoretically, you could set Document background to Automatic in the Options, then

  • in the document set the page background to light grey 1.
  • Click File > Printer Settings > Options and untick Page Background so it won’t print.
  • change the font colour from Automatic to black

It seems to bring a bit of trouble and potential problems, especially if just changing the cursor thickness fixes the issue.

Thanks! Presently I am on light gray 1 and I can see the cursor… I am going to have to stick with that… I hope LO will address the cursor problem at some point… Thanks!

Not unless someone reports a problem. If you want LibreOffice to support Windows cursor accessibility options you should report an enhancement bug, How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki
