I haven’t used LibreOffice yet, but I would like to know if I can see and edit the underlying XML file while in Writer. Preferably in two sub/windows, where one shows WYSIWYG representation and the other shows underlying XML representation, similar to what some HTML editors offer. My intent is to be able to understand and edit the formatting done behind the WYSIWYG representation.
Not that I know of. LibreO stores its information in ODF format as managed by the OASIS consortium, it is not LibreO specific. Anyway, the files would be too large for you to see in a meaningful way. Perhaps you could create a system for us.
Back in the 1970’s using the original GML from which HTML and XML descend there was a software system called Janus to do something similar. You typed in the GML and it displayed the WYSIWYG form. Mind you, the two headed terminal cost £10,000 or so and was monochrome and the computer added another few hundred thousand. … not the answer you wanted, but enjoy LibreOffice. A workaround is to “save as” a copy of your document with the Flat XML ODT Text Document (.fodt) format.
So you can open this new file in a text editor and the original .odt document in Writer.
