Can I use LibreOffice as a single user?

I have OpenOffice for Mac 4.1.2. When I go online somehow OO thinks someone else is using my file and puts a lock on it. I then cannot save anything when I’m offline. I need to have private documents that aren’t shared that I can edit whether online or off.

I installed LibreOffice. The readme file mentions editing “soffice”. I can not find this file. It is not in HELP. Here’s what I think I need to do. But how? I can use terminal on mac.
This is from README: To disable file locking, edit the soffice script and change the line “export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING” to “# export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING”. If you disable file locking, the write access of a document is not restricted to the user who first opens the document
