Can I view floating headings in Writer (like e.g. freezing the first row in Calc)?
I suppose that Navigator (F5) is the closest that exists.
Can Navigator at least auto select headings to follow the screen/cursor position in the document?
no it can’t
You can echo the current chapter heading or number in header or footer (field insertion), but that may not fit into your document framework.
