Cannot drag & drop cell to move [newbie]

Version: 25.2.5.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community | Windows 11
Ex-Excel user. Documentation states: Moving Cells by Drag-and-Drop
App does not behave this way. Select single cell. Left-click and drag. All that happens is the selection is expanded over other cells. Yes, I can select, , click destination, . Have tried same maneuver while holding down Shift, Ctrl, Alt, all to no effect.
Please, what am I missing here? Thanks.

I have just discovered: if I drag mouse from selected cell to an adjacent one (which as I wrote, extends the selection, then return the mouse pointer to original cell, then release mouse button, then press and hold mouse button, I can finally move the cell (contents) where I want it. I still don’t see this un-obvious technique in the documentation.

What you described in the comment is selection, as opposed to what you did initially - which was focused cell (but not selected). This is explained in confusingly named Selecting Multiple Cells, which has section " Mark a single cell".

An additional way: If you click on a cell, it is surrounded with colored border, the cell cursor. I you after that click again on this cell with pressed shift-key, the cell will be selected.

A shift-key + click selects from the cell where you shift-key + click to the cell where the cell cursor is.

Thank you both. I trust you are well aware that for some of us Excel-familiar folk, this is unexpected behavior (I’m not making a value judgment). And moving a cell in Excel with the mouse, is done by dragging the cell border (and the sprite changes to a four-headed arrow).
This reinforces my need to unlearn certain Office behavior in order to be productive with Libreoffice. I wonder, is there a guide or “re-education” program for us Office refugees?
