Cannot open ACCDB file in Libre office?

Hi,

I am trying desperately to open an ACCDB File in Libre office
I tried several releases 4.3 , 4.1.2.3 and 4.0.5 without any success
have you an idea how to make it works please ?

Your PC has some version of Windows? Then it should work; at least it works for me with LO4.2.5 on Windows 7.

  • Start LibreOffice > Data Base. You are in the Database Wizard.
  • Chose Microsoft Access 2007 in field Connect to existing database. Next.
  • Button Browse. Goto the folder with your .accdb file. Write *.accdb into the data name field. Enter.
  • Click on your .accdb file. Open.
  • Register if you wish, open for editing, save. You get the .odb file.

If you need more options, you can try to use ODBC. For details see How to connect to a Microsoft Access database - The Document Foundation Wiki. The article has not been updated, but the description for ODBC should be still valid.

There is no “Microsoft Access 2007” in field “Connect to existing database”. So what should I do? My libreOffice Version is : 4.2.8.2

Hi ,
thanks for your quick answer
I followed the step by step , all was fine until I got this error message:

The connection to the data source “New Database” could not be established.
SQL Status: HY000
The connection could not be created. May be the necessary data provider is not installed.

since my database never opened

have any idea what is it?

Which of the solutions do you have tried? What is your operating system? I’m not sure and others might help you better, but perhaps you need “Access Runtime” from Microsoft, or for ODBC you need “AccessDatabaseEngine”.

Hi Regina, my OS is window 7, Ok I will search some info on those softwares , seems to be a good idea , I have to try thanks again

Hi everyone, I installed AccessRuntime and AccessDatabaseEngine but my file don’t open (for the same reason I wrote above). I decided to open my file via LibreOffice .odb file I created before but still not open correctly cause the software is opening it with LO Writer even if I chose Database file as type file. dont know how to open it now, maybee my only solution is to reinstall Access 2007 in order to open it …do you suggest me other solution before ? thanks

Are you sure your .accdb file is not damaged? If you have got Access 2007, then you should reinstall it. Then you can look, whether Access still opens the file correctly. When there is no special reason for uninstalling Access, why not use it? Access has a database called “Northwind” for testing and learning. Can you use that file with LibreOffice? Further help is difficult, without having your file.

had a mistake like claire. then i installed Access Runtime and Access Database Engine and successfully opened my .accdb file in libreoffice (but i dont know which one runs
